Physical fit on the DIN rail
The 3RT2344-1AK60: This S3-size contactor measures 152 mm deep, 96 mm wide, and 140 mm tall. The width is the critical dimension in a packed enclosure — at 96 mm it occupies about five 18 mm-wide DIN module slots, so plan the rail layout accordingly. These are the minimum air gaps for heat dissipation and arc flash clearance — don't cram it tighter.
Main contact and auxiliary contact ratings
Main contacts rated for 10 million mechanical operations typical — that's the cycle life before the contactor's mechanism wears, not the electrical endurance under load. For the main contacts, electrical life at rated AC-3 duty is 1 million operations typical, derating to 200,000 at full AC-1 resistive load. These are the make/break ratings for the control circuit — match the PLC output or relay coil draw to the appropriate voltage row. Coil voltage is AC, 110 V at 50 Hz or 120 V at 60 Hz. The coil consumes 10 A inrush at 24 V, dropping to a holding current that's a fraction of that — the thermal rating of the control transformer must handle the inrush without voltage sag.
Wiring and termination
Main power terminals accept stranded wire from 6 to 70 mm² — that covers from about 10 AWG up to 2/0 AWG. The magnet coil uses screw-type terminals — no push-in here. Torque them to the specification in the mounting instructions; under-torqued screw terminals on the coil circuit are a common source of intermittent contactor dropout under vibration. Arcing time is 10 to 21 ms at AC, and the arc chute clears in 10 to 20 ms. This is fast enough for most motor starting duty, but if you're switching highly inductive loads like solenoids or DC coils, consider an RC snubber across the contacts to suppress the arc re-strike.
