The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1040-3ED32-0AA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 40 A continuous current, designed for line protection in distribution panels.
This breaker's interrupting capacity changes with system voltage, which is the spec you need for coordination studies. At 240 V it clears 75.6 kA; at 415 V it's 52.5 kA; at 440 V it drops to 32 kA; and at 500 V or 690 V it's 7.5 kA. That 7.5 kA at 690 V is the limiting figure for high-voltage industrial feeders — if your available fault current exceeds that at 690 V, you need a higher-rated frame or a current-limiting upstream device.
Thermal derating — it's not 40 A everywhere
The 40 A continuous rating holds from 40 °C up through 50 °C ambient. Above that it starts to taper: 39 A at 55 °C and 60 °C, 38 A at 65 °C, 37 A at 70 °C.
Dimensions are 130 mm high, 76.2 mm wide, 70 mm deep — a standard MCCB footprint that fits most DIN-rail or panel-mount enclosures without surprises. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. Insulation voltage is rated 800 V, so it's comfortable in 480 V and 600 V class systems with margin.
