What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 5SL4663-7 is a 4-pole (3P+N) miniature circuit breaker rated 63 A with a C-curve trip characteristic, designed for 400 V AC multi-phase circuits and delivering 10 kA breaking capacity per both EN 60898 and IEC 60947-2. The C-curve means it trips between 5 and 10 times rated current — standard for general-purpose distribution in residential and light commercial infrastructure where motor inrush or transformer magnetising current is moderate. At 63 A and 4 modular width units (72 mm wide), this is the high-current end of the 5SL6 family; it occupies four 18 mm DIN-rail slots.
What the ratings mean for fit
The 10 kA breaking capacity is the same under both EN 60898 (household standard) and IEC 60947-2 (industrial standard), so this breaker qualifies for either classification without derating. The 400 V AC rated voltage with a 440 V AC maximum on multi-phase operation means it handles standard 230/400 V three-phase networks cleanly, with headroom for nominal line swell. DC rated at 72 V maximum — usable for DC distribution only at low voltage, not for 125 V DC battery banks. The 5 W power loss per pole at rated current in hot operating state adds up to 20 W total across four poles; in a tightly packed DIN-rail enclosure, that heat needs to vent — don't bury it between unventilated barriers.
Mounting and integration
Snap-on DIN rail mounting, any position. Depth 76 mm, installation depth 70 mm behind the rail — standard for the SENTRON 5SL6 family. The 72 mm width (4 MWU) is the same footprint as four single-pole breakers ganged; verify your enclosure's gland-plate knockout pattern if you're swapping from a 3-pole unit. Sealable (padlockable toggle) for lockout/tagout compliance. IP20 with connected conductors — suitable for enclosed distribution boards, not for wet or dusty environments without an outer enclosure. Supplementary devices (auxiliary contacts, shunt trips, alarm switches) can be clipped onto the right side.
