Application Engineering Notes
Sizing and load matching. The 5.5 kW nominal rating is sized for a standard 4-pole IEC motor at 7.5 HP. For constant-torque applications — conveyors, extruders, positive-displacement pumps — size to the motor nameplate FLA and set VFD-B parameter 00-09 to constant-torque mode. For variable-torque loads like centrifugal fans and pumps, the drive can typically handle a motor one frame size larger without derating.
Installation environment. The VFD-B series is rated for 0–50 °C ambient at full load when clearance is adequate. In a non-air-conditioned tropical panel, leave at least 100 mm clearance above and below the drive. If multiple drives share an enclosure, add a panel ventilation fan and size it for the total heat dissipation — the VFD055B43A rejects approximately 150 W under full load.
Line-side protection and harmonics. This is a 3-phase input unit without a built-in DC link choke. If you are running more than three VFDs on the same feeder, or your supply transformer is sized close to the connected load, install a 3% line reactor upstream to reduce harmonic current and protect the input rectifier. For installations that must meet IEEE 519 harmonic limits, a passive or active front-end filter may be required at the panel level — we can specify the right one based on your site's transformer impedance.
PLC and fieldbus integration. The VFD-B series uses Delta's standard RJ-45 RS-485 Modbus RTU port. If you are replacing an older VFD-A, VFD-M, or VFD-S unit, the register map is largely forward-compatible. Our application engineers can pre-load your parameter set before dispatch — send us the parameter file from the existing drive and the unit arrives ready to wire.
Braking and stopping. For applications requiring rapid deceleration or overhauling loads (cranes, downhill conveyors, high-inertia fans), the VFD-B supports an external braking resistor on terminals B1/B2. We stock the matching Delta braking resistors — mention your deceleration time requirement when requesting a quote and we will include the correct resistor in the same shipment.
