Sensor type and switching principle
The Festo SMEO-1-B is a magnetic reed proximity sensor. It detects the position of a piston magnet through the cylinder wall — no physical contact, no wear on the sensing element. The reed contact closes when the magnetic field crosses the threshold, giving a clean normally-open switching output.
Rated for 200 V DC or 230 V AC at up to 150 mA output current. That covers typical PLC input modules and relay coils in industrial control panels. The 500 Hz switching frequency and 0.5 ms response time mean it can track fast-moving cylinders without missing a stroke — adequate for most pneumatic actuator feedback loops. IP67 enclosure rating means the sensor body and cable entry are sealed against dust ingress and temporary immersion. Suitable for washdown zones, outdoor cabinets, or areas with coolant mist. The cable is 2.5 m long — plan your gland entry and cable routing accordingly. Operating temperature spans -20 to 70 °C. That covers most factory-floor environments but confirm it stays within the thermal limits of the adjacent cylinder and mounting bracket.
