The Festo SMEO-1-LED-230-B is a magnetic reed proximity sensor rated for 230 V AC / 200 V DC with a switching capacity of 40 W. The normally open output switches at up to 500 Hz, making it suitable for position sensing on pneumatic actuators where the reed element detects the piston magnet through the cylinder wall.
The 40 W switching capacity limits the direct load to small relays or PLC inputs — do not drive a contactor coil or solenoid valve directly from this sensor without an interposing relay. The 250 mA AC / 120 mA DC maximum operating current confirms this is a signal-level device, not a power switch. IP67 enclosure means the sensor body and the 2 m PVC cable entry withstand washdown and dust ingress — suitable for food-and-bev or wet-area cylinder sensing where the sensor sees occasional spray. The magnetic reed principle is contact-based; switching frequency is capped at 500 Hz. For high-cycle applications (over 500 actuations per second), a solid-state proximity switch would be a better fit.
