What the 170 A SLD rating means for your motor load
The FR-A840-00170-2-60 carries a 170 A SLD (Super Light Duty) rated inverter current — that's the continuous output current the drive can deliver into a light-duty load like a fan or centrifugal pump without derating. For a typical 480 V motor, that translates to roughly 90-110 kW depending on the application duty cycle. The SLD rating is more generous than the HD (Heavy Duty) rating on the same drive frame, so if your load is a constant-torque conveyor or positive-displacement pump, you'll need to check the HD current curve — the SLD number alone won't guarantee thermal headroom for that duty. Input accepts three-phase 380 to 500 V at 50 or 60 Hz, with permissible fluctuation from 323 to 550 V — wide enough to handle most industrial mains without a step-down transformer.
Circuit board coating and panel fit
Forced air cooling means the heatsink needs clear airflow — minimum clearance above and below per the manual (typically 100 mm). The standard model (-0 suffix) has no built-in brake transistor or EMC filter; if your application needs dynamic braking or conducted emissions compliance, plan for external components.
