What this drive is for
The Mitsubishi FR-D720S-100SC-EC is a 2.2 kW frequency inverter from the FR-D700 Series, designed to run a three-phase motor from a single-phase mains supply (200...240 V, 50/60 Hz). It delivers 10 A rated output current and can drive the motor up to 400 Hz, which covers standard induction motors and some higher-speed spindle applications. The single-phase input is the key feature here — it lets you put a three-phase motor on a line that only has single-phase power, common in smaller workshops or retrofit jobs where pulling new service isn't practical.
Rated at 2.2 kW and 10 A, this drive is sized for a motor around that power on 230 V single-phase input. The 10 A is the continuous output current — that's the number to match against your motor's full-load amps, not the power rating alone. Output frequency goes to 400 Hz, so it can run a motor above line frequency if the motor is rated for it (check the motor nameplate for max RPM). The carrier frequency is adjustable from 2 kHz to 14.5 kHz; higher settings run quieter but increase drive heating, so in a panel with other heat sources you'll likely land around 4-8 kHz. The built-in MODBUS RTU over RS485 lets it talk to a PLC or HMI without an extra option card. Five digital inputs at 24 VDC handle start/stop, speed presets, and fault reset.
