Control methods — what each one buys you
Four control methods are selectable: V/F control for basic fan and pump duty, real sensorless vector control for general-purpose torque response, PM sensorless vector control for permanent-magnet motors, and magnetic flux vector control for higher dynamic performance on induction motors. The PM sensorless vector control is the key differentiator here — it lets you run a PM motor without an encoder, which saves the encoder cable and feedback card cost on the BOM.
Built-in network and PLC — standalone or bus-slave
The RS-485 port runs Modbus RTU natively — no option card needed for PLC or HMI communication over a twisted-pair bus. A built-in PLC function with 2K program memory allows simple ladder logic for local sequencing (conveyor interlock, pump alternation) without a separate micro-PLC. The 4-digit LED display and USB mini-B port let you commission and monitor without a separate programming panel — useful for quick parameter cloning across multiple drives.
Compliance and lifecycle — active, not legacy
CE, UL/cUL, and EAC compliance means this drive ships into European, North American, and Eurasian Economic Union installations without additional certification paperwork. RoHS compliant, lifecycle stage marked as current — this is an active-production part, not a phase-out or last-time-buy item. The predecessor is the FR-E720S-015SC-EC (order code 234796), so this unit is the direct replacement for that older single-phase input model.
Power loss and thermal budget
17 W power loss in normal-duty (ND) mode — at this dissipation level, natural convection inside a standard IP20 enclosure is adequate; no forced fan cooling required on the panel door. IP20 protection means the drive is intended for clean, dry indoor panel mounting — not for washdown or outdoor locations without a separate enclosure.
