Power supply and inrush — what the ratings mean for panel design
The FX3GA-40MR-CM: Rated AC100 to 240V, 50/60Hz — this PLC runs directly off standard single-phase mains without needing a separate 24V power supply module, saving a DIN-rail slot and one wiring step. Inrush current hits 30A for 5ms at AC100V, 50A at AC200V. The external branch circuit protection (MCB or fuse) needs a slow-blow characteristic or a rating above that peak to avoid nuisance trips on power-up. Permissible voltage range AC85 to 264V means it rides through brownouts down to 85V without dropping out — useful on sites with weak utility feeds or long cable runs. Momentary power failure below 10ms is tolerated — the internal DC bus holds the CPU state through brief line dips common on motor-starting circuits.
Expansion capacity and enclosure fit
Supply power capacity of 400mA on the expansion bus limits how many extension I/O or special-function blocks can be daisy-chained — total bus load must stay under that ceiling or the last block drops out. Power fuses are 250V 3.15A — replace only with the identical rating; a higher fuse blows the internal rectifier on a short.
