Integrator's Note
The FX5-32ER/ES is a powered I/O module (AC) in the MELSEC iQ-F series. It integrates 16 digital inputs and 16 relay outputs, using 32 I/O points on the PLC bus. Power supply range is 100-240 V AC, which matches standard industrial line voltages. The relay outputs switch AC or DC loads up to the rated contact current — no external suppression circuitry needed for typical inductive loads in motor control panels. This module takes the radiant heat from nearby drives and is immune to the conducted EMI that can plague transistor outputs.
Relay vs Transistor Outputs
If you are cross-shopping between this and the FX5-32ET/ES (transistor output, sink), the choice comes down to load characteristics. The 32ET/ES transistor outputs switch faster (kHz range) and last longer in high-cycle applications, but they need a separate DC supply and are vulnerable to surge damage. The 32ER/ES relay outputs handle higher inrush currents, tolerate AC and DC loads, and are electrically isolated per point — no common failure path. In a hot-strip mill or furnace-adjacent panel where ambient temperature hits 50°C, the relay version holds strip tension without derating, while transistor outputs often require forced cooling.
