The HG-SR52 is a 0.5 kW servo motor from the MELSERVO-J4 Series, built for the 200V voltage class. Its 2.4 N·m rated torque and 7.2 N·m maximum torque give it the headroom to handle peak loads during acceleration and deceleration without dropping out of position tracking. The 22-bit absolute incremental encoder (4194304 pulses/rev) means the drive always knows the rotor position at power-up — no homing sequence needed on a standard cycle. That saves one move per shot on a molding cell. Rated current draws 2.9 A, with a 9.0 A maximum — sized for a 1.0 kVA supply. The IP67 all-enclosed self-cooled construction means the motor body withstands washdown and airborne particulates common on a food or automotive line. No oil seal fitted as standard; the HG-SR_J variant carries one if the application runs in a gearbox splash zone.
This motor is the medium-torque member of the HG-SR family at 0.5 kW. The 490 N thrust and 980 N radial load ratings tell you it can handle a belt-drive or direct-couple load without oversizing the bearing set. Vibration class V10 keeps the frame stable at rated speed — relevant when the motor is mounted on a moving axis where imbalance shows up as surface finish variation. The 15:1 recommended load inertia ratio means the drive tuning stays within a standard auto-tuning range. If the reflected load inertia exceeds that, expect to add a tuning cycle or a larger frame. Moment of inertia is 7.26 × 10⁻⁴ kg·m², so the motor accelerates quickly — power rate at continuous torque is 7.85 kW/s.
Ambient operating range is 0–40 °C, 80% RH non-condensing. Storage range extends to -15–70 °C. Elevation limit is 2000 m; above that, derate the output or force-cool the enclosure. The motor is rated for indoor use only, away from corrosive gas, flammable gas, oil mist, and direct sunlight.
Integration notes
The HG-SR52 mates with the MR-J4-60B (SSCNET/H), MR-J4-60A (general-purpose), MR-J4-60GF (CC-Link IE Field), or the 2-axis integrated MR-J4W2-77B / MR-J4W2-1010B drives. The 22-bit encoder is absolute incremental shared, so the drive retains position data across power cycles without a battery backup on the motor side. Maximum rotational speed is 3000 r/min; instantaneous allowable overspeed to 3450 r/min. Axis allowable load is 55 mm from the mounting face. Vibration resistance is 24.5 m/s² in both X and Y axes. The thermal class is 155 (F), so the motor can run a 40 °C ambient with a 100 °C rise without exceeding the winding insulation limit.
