Integrator's note on the HG-SR52B
The HG-SR52B is a 0.5 kW rotary servo motor from the MELSERVO-J4 series, built for 200 V class supplies. Rated torque sits at 2.4 N·m with a maximum torque of 7.2 N·m, and the speed range runs from 2000 rpm rated to 3000 rpm maximum, with an instantaneous allowable speed of 3450 rpm. The 22-bit absolute/incremental encoder (4194304 pulses/rev) gives position feedback resolution that handles tight registration or contouring applications without needing a separate feedback device. IP67 enclosure means the motor body withstands washdown environments — food processing or wet machining lines — as long as the cable gland and mating connector are also rated for it. The continuous rated current is 2.9 A, with a maximum current of 9.0 A, so the servo amplifier must be sized for the peak draw during acceleration. Recommended load inertia moment ratio is 15 times or less; exceeding that risks instability or extended settling time, especially on high-gain axes. Thermal class 155 (F) gives headroom for ambient temperatures up to 40 °C during operation, with storage down to -15 °C.
The shaft accepts a thrust load of 490 N and a radial load of 980 N — enough for direct-coupled loads like timing belts or light gearboxes, but a separate bearing support is needed for heavy overhung pulleys. Moment of inertia is 9.48 × 10⁻⁴ kg·m², which combined with the power rate of 6.01 kW/s at continuous torque gives a sense of acceleration capability for sizing calculations. Vibration class is V10, with vibration resistance tested at 24.5 m/s² in both X and Y axes. The motor is rated for installation up to 2000 m above sea level and indoor use only, with no corrosive gas, flammable gas, oil mist, or excessive dust. Ambient humidity must stay at 80% RH or less during operation, 90% RH or less during storage.
Overseas compliance documentation is available per the manufacturer's standards page — the motor carries the necessary certifications for CE-marked territories and other international markets, though the specific marks (UL, CSA, etc.) should be verified against the local installation code. No oil seal is fitted as standard; a variant with an oil seal exists in the HG-SR_J subfamily if the application demands it.
Servo amplifier compatibility
The HG-SR52B mates with several MR-J4 servo amplifier variants depending on the network interface required: MR-J4-60B-RJ for SSCNET/H, MR-J4-60A-RJ for general-purpose interface, MR-J4-60GF-RJ for CC-Link IE Field, and MR-J4-60B-RJ010 for a specific SSCNET/H variant. For 2-axis integrated drives, the MR-J4W2-1010B is the matching amplifier. Regenerative braking frequency is 31 times per minute with the MR-J4 amplifier, or 154 times per minute with the MR-J4W_ series — important for vertical loads or high-cycle indexing where the brake resistor duty cycle matters.
