Motor and Reducer in One Assembly
The HG-SR52G1H 1/6 is a Mitsubishi MELSERVO-J4 Series HG-SR servo motor with an integrated 1/6 reduction gearbox, rated at 0.5 kW output on a 200V class supply. Rated torque is 2.4 N·m, with a peak capability of 7.2 N·m (3 times rated). The 22-bit absolute/incremental encoder delivers 4,194,304 pulses per revolution, giving position resolution suitable for precision indexing or coordinated motion on a packaging or assembly line. The housing is totally enclosed, self-cooled, and rated IP67, meaning the motor body and the output shaft seal area withstand washdown environments — suitable for food-and-bev or pharmaceutical lines where hose-down cleaning is routine. Note that the gear unit carries a separate IP44 protection class, so the gearbox itself is splash-rated, not fully submersible.
Backlash and Mechanical Interface
Backlash at the reducer output shaft is listed at 40 minutes to 2 °. For a pharmaceutical GMP validation engineer, that range means the gear train has measurable lash — acceptable for general positioning but not for a zero-backlash cam or direct-drive replacement. If your application requires reversing accuracy under 1 arc-minute, consider the oil-seal variant (HG-SR_J series) or a separate low-backlash gearhead. No oil seal is fitted on this model; a servomotor with oil seal is available separately under the HG-SR_J suffix. For washdown or vertical-mount applications where ingress along the shaft is a risk, the sealed variant is the correct choice. Lubrication is grease-sealed for life, so no field re-greasing is required. The gear efficiency ranges from 85% to 94%, which should be factored into the total system torque budget.
Environmental Limits and Mounting
Operation is limited to indoor use below 2000 m elevation, with ambient humidity 10% to 80% RH non-condensing. The atmosphere must be free of corrosive gas, flammable gas, oil mist, and dust. For a panel integrator, this means the motor is not rated for outdoor or unconditioned enclosures without additional environmental controls. Vibration resistance is 24.5 m/s² on both X and Y axes. Heat resistance class is 155 (F). The allowable axial load is 55 mm from the mounting face, which constrains how far a pulley or coupling can overhang.
The motor interfaces with MR-J4-60B or MR-J4-60B-RJ servo amplifiers via SSCNET III/H, or with MR-J4-60A / MR-J4-60A-RJ for general-purpose interface. The command interface supports CC-Link IE Field Network, so it integrates into Mitsubishi's iQ Platform automation architecture.
