The CP1W-CIF01 is an RS-232C serial option card for the Omron CP1E series of programmable logic controllers. It adds a single RS-232C serial port to the CPU, enabling point-to-point communication with HMIs, drives, barcode readers, or other serial devices.
What the RS-232C interface means for your design
RS-232C is a single-ended, point-to-point serial standard. On the CP1E platform, this card provides the physical layer for protocols such as Omron Host Link, Modbus RTU (master or slave), or no-protocol data exchange. The maximum cable length is 15 meters per the RS-232 standard; for longer runs or multi-drop topologies, an RS-422/485 card would be the correct choice.
Integration note for the panel builder
The card mounts directly onto the CP1E CPU or an expansion I/O unit via the internal bus connector. No external wiring is required for the bus interface; the RS-232C port is brought out to a 9-pin D-sub connector on the card's face. The CP1E power budget allocates 0.2 A at 5 VDC for option boards; verify total draw across all fitted options does not exceed the CPU's internal supply rating.
