10-slot backplane for CS1 racks
The Omron CS1W-BC102 is a 10-slot module-only backplane that mounts into the CS1 Series rack. It provides the passive bus and mechanical support for up to ten CS1-series I/O, CPU, or special-function modules — no power supply or CPU is integrated into the backplane itself. The backplane is the structural spine of the rack: it carries the backplane bus between modules and provides the DIN-rail or panel-mounting footprint. The 10-slot count means you can fit a CPU plus nine I/O or communication modules in a single chassis, which is typical for mid-size machine control where you need a mix of discrete, analog, and network slices.
Compatibility and slot count
The CS1W-BC102 is designed for the CS1 Series PLC family. It accepts any CS1-series module that fits the rack form factor. Slot count directly governs the I/O capacity of the chassis. With 10 slots, you can populate a CPU in slot 0 and still have nine slots for field I/O or network interfaces, which is enough for a machine with a couple of remote I/O drops and a few analog loops. If you need more than 10 slots, you either cascade a second rack via the CS1W-BI0xx bus interface module or step up to the CS1D redundant chassis.
For a backplane that is part of a mature PLC platform, the eol_hot flag is a signal to plan a migration path if you are specifying a new design. The CS1 Series has been succeeded by the CJ2 and NX/NJ platforms, but for existing installed base the CS1W-BC102 remains available.
