The Omron D40Z-1C5 is a compact, non-contact RFID-coded safety interlock switch from the D40 Series, built for guarding access on industrial machinery. It uses RFID technology to detect the actuator, meaning the switch head and actuator must be a coded pair — this prevents defeat by a common magnet or metal slug. The 5 m cable connects directly to a safety relay or safety PLC input; the integrated LED gives a quick visual on switch state without needing a multimeter. The sensing distances are On = 5 mm and Off = 15 mm. That 5 mm On distance means the actuator must be within 5 mm of the switch face for the safety contacts to close — tight enough that a door or guard must be fully shut, but with enough tolerance to avoid nuisance trips from vibration. The 15 mm Off distance (hysteresis) ensures the contacts open reliably when the guard opens just over a centimeter, meeting the positive-opening requirement for safety circuits.
Build and environment
The switch body measures 48.0 x 25.0 mm, and the actuator is 48.0 x 17.0 mm. That compact footprint fits on standard 25 mm profile framing or smaller guard doors. The housing is PBT resin — a glass-reinforced plastic that holds up in oily or mildly caustic washdown environments without corroding. IP67 rating means the switch and actuator survive hose-down cleaning and temporary submersion, so it belongs on food-processing lines, packaging machines, or any area where wet cleaning is routine.
