Field-fit note for this M8 shielded sensor
The Omron E2A-S08LS02-WP-C2 5M is a currently-in-production M8 shielded inductive proximity sensor, with NPN normally-closed output, 2mm sensing distance, and a 5-meter PVC cable. Runs on 12 to 24 VDC, three-wire DC. Rated for flush mounting; the shielded design lets it sit in a metal panel without false triggers. If you're swapping one in the field, check your PLC input card is sinking (NPN) — this one switches low-side. The cable length means you can often reach the terminal block without a junction box; saves a splice point on a line-down call.
