Sensor Selection Brief
The E2B-M12KS04-M1-C2: A shielded 12 mm diameter cylindrical proximity sensor from Omron's E2B series, with a 4 mm sensing distance. Output is NPN normally closed, wired via an M12 connector. The short-body brass housing suits flush-mount installations where target material is ferrous metal.
Sensing and Output Details
Shielded construction allows flush mounting in metal without derating the sensing distance, unlike unshielded types that require a non-ferrous zone around the face. Normally closed output means the switch opens when a target enters the sensing field — often chosen for fail-safe circuits where a broken wire or sensor failure breaks the loop. At 4 mm nominal sensing distance with an NPN output, this sensor reads standard carbon steel targets; use the standard correction factor for other metals.
Wiring Preference vs. the Pre-Wired Sibling
The E2B-M12KS04-WP-C2 2M delivers the same electrical function — shielded, NPN NC, 4 mm sensing — but terminates through a 2-meter PVC pigtail instead of an M12 connector. If your panel is wired with M12 receptacles, the M1-C2 variant plugs in directly. The WP-C2 2M requires a junction box or splice if you're converting from a connector-based layout.
