The E2B-M18KN16-M1-C1: Unshielded construction gives this sensor 16 mm of sensing range – three times more than the shielded peer E2B-M18KS05-M1-B1 (5 mm). The trade-off: unshielded sensors require non-flush mounting (at least the sensing distance away from ferrous metal framing). If your application can tolerate that stand-off, the longer range buys more margin against target wobble or contamination.
Not without changes. The mechanical mounting is the same (18 mm, short barrel, M12), but the E2B-M18KN16-M1-C1 is unshielded and NPN, whereas the M18KS05-M1-B1 is shielded and PNP. You will need to rewire the load and verify non-flush mounting clearance.
