Sensor specification and fit
The Omron E2BM12KS04M1B2OMI is an inductive proximity sensor from the E2B series, designed for flush mounting in metal. It detects ferrous targets at a rated distance of 4 mm, which for a flush-mount M12 sensor is the standard sensing face — the 4 mm is the maximum guaranteed detection range for a mild steel target, not a typical operating gap. The PNP normally-closed (NC) output means the load is switched when no target is present; the output transistor sinks 200 mA maximum, sufficient for direct PLC input or small relay coils without an interposing interface. The sensor operates on a 10–30 VDC supply, drawing 10 mA quiescent current. Switching frequency is rated at 1 kHz, so it can detect passing targets at up to 1000 events per second — adequate for counting on a moderate-speed conveyor or detecting cam positions on a rotating shaft. The M12 connector (4-pin, per the construction form) mates with standard M12 cordsets; the brass nickel-plated housing withstands the typical industrial environment, and the IP67 rating means the sensor body and the connector interface are protected against temporary immersion in water — suitable for washdown areas but not continuous submersion.
Integration and mounting considerations
Flush-mount installation means the sensor face can be level with the mounting surface without a reduction in sensing distance — unlike non-flush types that require a free zone around the face. The 51 mm body length fits standard M12 sensor holders; the M12 connector exits axially, so allow clearance for the mating cordset and bend radius. The brass nickel-plated housing is compatible with most machine frames; avoid overtightening the mounting nut beyond the manufacturer's recommended torque (not listed here, but typically 10–15 N·m for M12).
