Integrator's field note
The Omron E2BM12KS04WPB12MOMI is an M12 threaded-barrel inductive proximity sensor from the current-production E2B series. It detects ferrous targets at up to 4 mm in a flush-mount configuration — meaning the sensor face can be level with the mounting surface without false triggering from the surrounding metal. Output is PNP normally open, rated for 200 mA continuous load, switching at up to 1 kHz. Supply range is 10-30 VDC; the sensor draws 10 mA quiescent. The brass nickel-plated housing and IP67 rating make it suitable for washdown areas and wet environments on packaging or material-handling lines.
What the ratings mean for fit
The 4 mm sensing distance is the rated operating distance (Sn) for a standard mild-steel target. In flush-mount installations, derating for non-ferrous metals or side-by-side mounting follows the usual inductive sensor guidelines — the E2B series datasheet provides correction factors. The 1 kHz switching frequency means it can detect targets passing at up to 1000 events per second, adequate for high-speed counting or cam-detect applications on conveyor drives. The PNP NO output is sourcing-type (positive-switching), compatible with most PLC digital inputs that expect a +VDC signal when the target is present. Pre-wired with a 2-meter cable (typical for this series), it avoids the need for a separate connector and reduces the chance of moisture ingress at the sensor end.
