What this sensor does on the line
The Omron E2BM12LN08WPB12MOMI is an M12 inductive proximity sensor from the E2B series, built for detecting ferrous metal targets at a rated distance of 8 mm when mounted non-flush. The 8 mm reach is the maximum guaranteed detection range in the non-flush configuration — it catches a target before it contacts the face, leaving a clearance gap that keeps the brass housing from taking mechanical hits on a conveyor or rotating shaft guard. It switches at 800 Hz, so it's fast enough to count parts on a moderate-speed pick-and-place or sense a passing gear tooth on a rotating shaft without missing pulses. The PNP normally-open output pulls up to 200 mA, which drives a PLC input or a small relay directly — no interposing module needed.
IP67 and the brass barrel — built for the grease
The housing is brass with an IP67 seal, so it stands up to washdown spray, coolant mist, and the kind of dust you find on a lube route or a machining center. The 2 m cable exits the barrel and runs straight to the junction box — no connector to corrode, one less failure point out where the grease flies. Operating range is -25 °C to 70 °C, which covers most plant-floor environments short of an oven line.
