What this sensor is and where it fits
The Omron E2BM18LS08WPC12MOMI is an M18 threaded inductive proximity sensor from the E2B series, built for flush mounting into metal. It detects ferrous targets up to 8 mm away and switches an NPN normally-open output at up to 500 Hz. Rated IP67, the brass housing and 2-meter cable hold up to washdown and coolant spray out here in the grease — it'll survive the route on a machine tool or conveyor line.
What the ratings mean for fit
The 8 mm sensing distance is the rated range for a flush-mounted M18 sensor against a standard steel target. Flush mount means the face can be level with the mounting surface — no extra standoff needed — so it fits into tapped holes or brackets where space is tight. The 500 Hz switching frequency is fast enough to count parts on a moderate-speed line or detect shaft rotation without missing pulses. Output is NPN normally open, meaning the load (PLC input, relay) connects between the output and the positive supply; the sensor switches the load to ground when a target is present. Maximum load current is 200 mA, enough for a single PLC input or a small relay coil directly. Operating voltage range is 10 to 30 VDC, so it works on common 12 V or 24 V control supplies. Current consumption is just 10 mA — negligible on a backplane or terminal block. The IP67 rating means the sensor body and cable entry are sealed against dust and temporary immersion, good for washdown zones and outdoor conveyor sections.
