What the 2 mm flush-mount range means for fit
The E2BS08KS02WPC12MOMI: The 2 mm sensing distance on mild steel is the maximum guaranteed range for a flush-mount M8 sensor. Flush mounting means the face can be level with the surrounding metal without false triggering — the correction factor for stainless steel targets is 0.7×, so budget 1.4 mm in a stainless application. For aluminium or brass, the factor drops to 0.4×, leaving only 0.8 mm of usable range. The 1.5 kHz switching frequency means the sensor can detect a 13 mm-wide target passing at up to 19.5 m/s before the output pulse width shortens and the downstream PLC input filter misses edges. For slower conveyor or indexing applications, the margin is generous.
Output wiring and load limits
NPN NO output sinks current to ground on detection — the load connects between the output and the positive supply rail. This is the standard for Japanese-origin PLC families (Omron, Mitsubishi, Keyence) that source 24 VDC to the input module. The 200 mA load current drives a PLC input or a small relay coil directly; for larger loads, interpose a contactor. Operating voltage range is 10-30 VDC with 10 mA no-load current consumption. Multiple sensors can share one 24 VDC supply — a 2 A supply handles 200 sensors at idle.
Environmental sealing and housing
IP67 means the sensor body and cable entry withstand immersion in 1 m of water for 30 minutes. The stainless steel housing resists corrosion better than nickel-plated brass in washdown and food-grade environments — the 2 m PVC cable has no connector to fail, so the cable gland is the only potential moisture path.
The E2B series is Omron's standard M8/M12 inductive sensor family, widely stocked through distribution.
