Omron's E2E-C04N03-MC-B2 is a miniature unshielded proximity switch in a smooth cylindrical 4mm body. It detects ferrous targets at 3mm with a PNP normally closed output, wired via a 3-pin M8 connector. Often used in tight spaces—pick-and-place grippers, rotary indexers, or small assembly fixtures—where you need a normally closed signal and a clean field-side disconnect.
Why this configuration matters
The normally closed (NC) output means the sensor's internal transistor is ON when no target is present. If power fails or the cable breaks, the signal drops to OFF—useful for fail-safe interlocks or anti-collision checks. The 3mm sensing range is short enough to avoid false triggers from nearby metal but requires tight mechanical tolerance on the target gap. Unshielded construction gives a slightly wider detection zone than a shielded equivalent of the same head size, but it's more sensitive to side metal—keep at least one sensor diameter of free space around the face. M8 3-pin connector suits quick-change tooling or machines where sensors get replaced frequently. No need to re-terminate cables; just unplug and swap. Pair it with a standard M8 cordset (straight or right-angle) rated for your environment.
