Tight-spot sensor with a shielded flush mount
The Omron E2E-C04S12-MC-C1 is a small-diameter shielded inductive proximity sensor from the E2E series, sized for tight mounting spots at 4 mm diameter, with a 1.2 mm sensing distance and NPN normally open output via a 3-pin M8 connector. Shielded construction means it can be flush-mounted in metal without derating the sensing range, but that 1.2 mm gap calls for precise positioning — run a test target past it during commissioning to confirm repeatable pickup. The M8 connector simplifies swap-out if a sensor fails; just check your cable has the mating 3-pin M8 male end, and that the 3-wire NPN circuit matches your input card.
Signal integrity note for the integrator
Shielding keeps electrical noise from coupling into the output, but with 4 mm diameter and only 1.2 mm of air gap, a dirty target or a slight misalignment will drop the signal. Use a rigid bracket, keep the target perpendicular, and verify the NPN pull-up resistor matches your PLC sinking input.
