Tight-fit sensor for confined machine positions
The E2E-S05N03-MC-C1 is an Omron small-diameter proximity sensor with a 5 mm threaded barrel (cylindrical body 5.4 mm OD) — sized for mounting in gripper fingers, small actuators, or pick-and-place end effectors where standard 8 mm or 12 mm barrels won't fit. Rated sensing distance is 3 mm, unshielded (N-type), meaning the target must approach from the front face without a metal flush-mount surround — plan for a 3 mm sensing gap plus at least 6 mm side clearance from adjacent ferrous material to avoid false triggers. Output is DC 3-wire NPN normally open (NO) — the sensor sinks current when a target enters the detection zone, so the PLC input must source 24 V and the sensor's black wire connects to the input card's common.
M8 connector and wiring reality
Termination is an M8 3-pin male connector (code MC) — mates with standard M8 female cordsets. Pin 1 = brown (24 VDC), Pin 3 = blue (0 V), Pin 4 = black (NPN output). No pin 2 on a 3-pin configuration. The unshielded design means the sensor body does not need a grounded metal shield — the plastic or brass barrel floats electrically, which simplifies wiring in non-metallic machine frames but requires the cable cordset to be routed away from high-frequency noise sources.
