1.2 mm detection in a 5 mm barrel — what it means on the line
The E2E-S05S12-CJ-C1 is a shielded M5 proximity sensor with a 1.2 mm sensing distance — that is a very short detection zone, sized for confirming small parts are present or counting components on a feeder track. The 5 mm threaded body fits into tight mounting holes where a standard M12 or M18 barrel would not clear. Output is a DC 3-wire NPN normally-open transistor — it sinks current to ground when a ferrous target enters the 1.2 mm window. That NPN NO logic mates directly with most PLC sinking input cards; just pull the collector up to 24 V through the input resistor.
Mounting and wiring — connector saves panel time
The connecting method is an M8 pre-wired connector, 3-pin — the sensor ships with a short pigtail and a male M8 quick-disconnect. That means you can swap a failed unit without pulling wire through conduit: unthread the M8 coupler, spin in a replacement, and the line is back up inside a minute. The shielded SUS (stainless steel) threaded body resists corrosion in coolant mist or washdown areas. The shielding also confines the sensing field to the face of the barrel, so the sensor can be mounted flush in steel without false triggers from the surrounding metal.
