What the 3 mm sensing distance means on this barrel

The E2E-X05N03-WC-B1: The 3 mm rated sensing distance is for mild steel targets. On stainless or aluminum the correction factor drops the usable range to about 2 mm or less — budget for that if the target isn't carbon steel. The unshielded construction (no metal band around the face) gives the full 3 mm reach; a shielded version of the same barrel would knock that down to about 1.5 mm.

PNP output and wiring for a 24 VDC PLC input

DC 3-wire PNP open-collector output — sourcing, not sinking. The load connects between the output and 0 V; the sensor switches +24 V to the PLC input. Normally-open means the output goes high when metal enters the detection zone. The PVC pre-wired cable is 2 meters long, three conductors: brown (+V), blue (0 V), black (output). No connector to swap — just strip and terminate.
