What it is and what it does
The Omron E2E-X22B2L30-M1 is an inductive proximity sensor from the E2E NEXT series, housed in a threaded M30 cylinder. It detects ferrous metal targets at up to 22 mm when shielded, which means it can be flush-mounted in metal without sensing range degradation. The PNP normally-closed output sinks current from a 10-30 VDC supply, making it a direct drop-in for controls expecting a PNP-NC 3-wire signal. Rated IP67 and IP69K, this sensor withstands high-pressure washdown and temporary submersion — common in food, beverage, and packaging lines where hygiene-driven cleaning cycles are standard. The 200 Hz response frequency handles moderate-speed target passes (e.g., bottle counting, conveyor presence).
Lifecycle and sourcing reality
This is a current-production part, so there is no last-time-buy pressure or PCN-driven urgency. Genuine is genuine — whether the unit comes from an Omron-authorized European distributor or a parallel channel, the part number and specs are identical. The nickel-plated brass body and M30 connector termination are standard across all regional variants. I would specify this line item into a BOM with confidence that replenishment is routine.
Integration note
Shielded construction allows flush mounting in metal panels or brackets; no derating for near-metal surroundings. The M30 thread matches standard mounting holes — tighten to the recommended torque without over-compressing the barrel. The connector termination (M12 or similar, not included) must be wired PNP-NC: the normally-closed output switches to open when a target enters the sensing field.
