3 mm shielded sense zone — what it means on the line
The Omron E2E-X3D1-M1J-T 1M is a shielded inductive proximity sensor with a 3 mm sensing distance on mild steel. Shielded construction means it can be flush-mounted in metal without derating the sensing range — useful when you need to recess the sensor into a bracket or machine frame and still get repeatable detection of a passing cam or actuator. The DC 2-wire output is polarity-free, so you don't need to worry about matching + and - on the supply lines — it simplifies wiring in retrofit or field-replacement scenarios where the cable colours may not be standard.
Connection and cable — M12 with 1 m PVC
Termination is via an M12 connector with a 1-meter PVC cable attached. The M12 gives a positive-lock ring that holds the connection under vibration; the PVC jacket handles oil and coolant splash typical on a machine tool or conveyor line. No separate connector body to source — the cable is moulded on, one less junction to leak. The output is normally open (NO), so the signal line goes high when the target enters the 3 mm sense zone. Standard for counting or position-confirm logic where the PLC expects a rising edge on target presence.
