M12 barrel, 4 mm shielded — the fit decision
The Omron E2E-X4B1T12-M1 is a shielded M12 inductive proximity sensor with a 4 mm sensing range on mild steel. Shielded construction means it can be flush-mounted in steel without derating the sensing distance — useful when the sensor needs to sit level with the machine frame or inside a tapped hole. Output is PNP normally open on a 3-wire DC configuration, with the M12 connector (typically A-coded) for quick disconnect. The 4 mm range at M12 diameter is the standard sweet spot for detecting small parts, actuator positions, or cylinder piston presence without the sensor body protruding into the work envelope.
IO-Link at 230.4 kbps — what it buys you
This sensor supports IO-Link communication at 230.4 kbps. The IO-Link parameter set also lets you adjust the switching hysteresis and output timing remotely, so one hardware SKU can serve multiple station setups without a technician turning a potentiometer.
