The Omron E2E-X4B3D12 2M is an M12 shielded inductive proximity sensor from the E2E NEXT series. It detects ferrous metals at 4 mm with a standard-frequency oscillator. Output is PNP, NO+NC, DC 3-wire — the two contacts give you flexibility to wire normally-open or normally-closed without swapping units. The 2-meter PVC cable is pre-wired; for oily or wet environments it holds up, but avoid high-flex routing. IO-Link at 38.4 kbps allows remote parameter adjustment. Without IO-Link, the sensor defaults to NO+NC operation.
Integration & Fit
M12 shielded body installs with a plain M12 nut through a 12 mm hole. Shielding projects detection from the face only, with 4 mm typical range for M12 shielded. The cable exits the back. NO+NC means you have two separate switch outputs — typically brown (NO) and black (NC) wires, with blue common and PNP load. If your PLC card expects one signal type, just leave the other wire unused. Both share the same 4 mm detection spot, so you can't monitor two zones.
Why This Isn't a Drop-In for E2C Head Sensors
If you're comparing this to the E2C-X1R5AH — stop. That part is a heat-resistant head for a separate E2C amplifier system, M8 thread, 1.5 mm range, 3-m cable, IP60. The E2E-X4B3D12 2M is a self-contained sensor with IO-Link. No mounting or wiring compatibility. The E2C head cannot be substituted into a panel built for the E2E series.
