Product details

What you've got here

Omron E2E-X5MF1 2M is an inductive proximity sensor in the E2E family. It senses ferrous metal targets at 5 mm when unshielded – that's the full rated distance without a metal shield surrounding the face. Output is PNP normally open, carried on a 2-meter PVC cable, DC three-wire. Standard oscillation frequency; DC 3-wire PNP output. No self-diagnosis, so it's a straightforward presence sensor – wire it, mount it, done.

Mounting & wiring notes

Unshielded means no metal surround within about three diameters of the sensing face – allow clearance or the effective distance drops. The 2-meter PVC cable terminates straight into a terminal block or M12 connector field; no special stripping beyond what the PVC jacket allows. Standard DC three-wire: brown (V+), blue (V-), black (NO output). PNP sources current; your PLC input should be sinking. If your panel is wired NPN, you'll need a converter or a different sensor.

Frequently asked questions

Can E2KQ-X10ME1 be used as a replacement for this sensor?

No. The E2KQ-X10ME1 is a capacitive sensor with NPN output and adjustable range (6-10 mm). It detects non-metallic materials and has different wiring. They are not drop-in substitutes.

Will the E2E-X5MF1 2M fit into a panel wired for the E2KQ-X10ME1?

No. The E2KQ-X10ME1 uses NPN output (sinking), while this sensor uses PNP (sourcing). Wiring polarity and PLC input type must match. The mounting hole spacing also differs.
