What it is and where it fits
The Omron E2E-X5Y1 2M is a shielded inductive proximity switch with a 5 mm sensing distance, 2-wire AC output wired normally open, and a 2-meter PVC cable attached. This is a standard-frequency sensor meant for metal target detection in machined environments where flush mounting is required – the shielded construction lets it sit in a metal panel or mounting block without falsely triggering on the surroundings.
Ratings you actually need to replace a line sensor
Sensing distance of 5 mm is set for reliable detection of ferrous targets at that standoff. AC 2-wire means it switches line voltage directly – common in older panel wiring or where a separate DC supply isn't available. Normally open output so the sensor closes when the target enters the field. Shielding lets you mount it in a metal block without needing standoff, good for end-of-conveyor stops or part-presence points on a machine base.
