Unshielded construction gives the full 8 mm sensing distance; a shielded variant of the same size would drop to roughly 4 mm. The 2-wire DC output simplifies wiring — only two wires for power and signal — but carries a voltage drop across the sensor; verify your load can tolerate it at the low end of the 12-24 VDC supply. NC output means the sensor opens on detection, making it a natural fit for fail-safe circuits or where a normally-closed loop is expected.
