Omron E2E2-X3D1 2M is a shielded inductive proximity sensor from the E2E2 series. Rated for 3 mm sensing distance with a DC 2-wire, normally open output. The 2 m cable is factory-attached.
What the ratings mean for fit
The 3 mm sensing range is specified for a standard mild steel target. Shielded construction permits flush mounting in metal without derating the sensing range – important when the sensor sits in a drilled or tapped mounting block. DC 2-wire output means the sensor is a two-terminal device; it switches the load directly and draws a small leakage current when off. Verify the load current stays within the sensor's rated range, typically from a few mA to the maximum specified. Compared to the E2E2-X5B1-M1 (5 mm sensing, M12 connector, DC 3-wire PNP open collector), the X3D1 has a shorter range and uses two-wire technology. The 2-wire output simplifies wiring but requires attention to load impedance and leakage current. The X5B1's M12 connector allows quick replacement without stripping cable; the X3D1 has a fixed 2 m cable. For a drop-in substitution check the mounting distance – the X5B1 reaches farther but uses a different output type (PNP, 3-wire). A 3-wire sink/source buffer might be needed to convert signals.
Integration notes
Shielded body allows the sensor to be mounted flush in a metal bracket or plate. Cable is 2 m, PVC jacket. DC 2-wire normally open – sense when a target enters the field. No load connected between the two wires when the sensor is off; on-state current flows through the load. Minimum load current is typically 3 mA – verify against your PLC input or relay coil.
