The Omron E2E2-X5C1 2M is a shielded inductive proximity sensor from the E2E2 family, delivering a 5 mm sensing distance with a DC 3-wire NPN normally open output. The 2-meter pigtail cable is factory-molded for IP67 in automated machinery positions.
What the ratings mean on the floor
5 mm sensing distance is the rated range on a standard carbon steel target. Shielded construction permits flush mounting in metal panels without losing range — that is the key difference from unshielded siblings like E2E2-X5MB1-M1, which need a non-ferrous air gap. NPN (sinking) output means the sensor pulls the output line low when a target is present. Your PLC input module must be sourcing (PNP) or you will need an interposing relay or converter. This is the first thing to check when replacing a sensor on a live line.
