What this sensor does on the line
The Omron E2EC04S12WCB22MOMS is a 4 mm diameter inductive proximity sensor with a 1.2 mm flush-mount sensing range. That 1.2 mm detection window means it spots a metal target passing within a hair's breadth — typical for confirming cam position, detecting a small actuator stroke, or counting parts on a high-speed pick-and-place. The 4 kHz switching frequency keeps up with fast-moving lines; at that rate it can catch targets at over 240,000 parts per hour without missing a beat. Output is PNP normally closed (break contact), so the sensor holds its output high when a target is absent and drops it when metal enters the detection zone. That NC logic is common in safety-monitored circuits where a broken wire or sensor failure forces the output low — a fail-safe arrangement. The 2 m cable terminates direct to the PLC input or junction box; no connector to lose or corrode. Runs on 10 to 30 VDC, draws 10 mA quiescent, and switches up to 100 mA load current. The IP67 stainless steel housing handles washdown and coolant splash — a good fit for machining centers or packaging lines where the sensor lives near the action.
Mounting and integration
Flush-mount rated: you can embed this sensor into a metal bracket or machine frame without needing a non-ferrous standoff. The 4 mm body fits into a standard 4 mm drilled hole. Keep the target approach perpendicular to the face; the 1.2 mm range is short enough that side-approach reduces detection reliability. Cable exit is axial, so plan for a 25.1 mm depth behind the mounting surface plus bend radius for the 2 m cable.
