What it is and what it does
The Omron E2EC05S01WCB12MOMS is a cylindrical inductive proximity sensor from the E2E series, built in a 5 mm diameter stainless steel housing with flush-mount capability. It detects ferrous targets up to 1 mm away and switches at up to 4 kHz, making it suited for high-speed presence detection on small moving parts — think cam lobes, gear teeth, or miniature actuator positions in a pick-and-place cell. Output is PNP normally open (NO), rated for 100 mA load current, operating from 10 to 30 VDC. The 2 m cable termination keeps wiring simple — no separate connector to source. IP67 rating means the stainless barrel and cable entry survive washdown and coolant spray on a machine tool or packaging line.
Sizing and fit — the 5 mm form factor
At 5 mm diameter and 25.1 mm body length, this sensor fits into tight mounting brackets and drilled holes where a standard M8 or M12 barrel won't go. The flush-mount design means it can be embedded in a metal surface without requiring a non-ferrous standoff zone around the face — useful when retrofitting into an existing fixture plate. The 1 mm sensing distance is short — target runout and vibration tolerance need to be tight. For applications where the target passes within 0.5 mm of the face, the 15 % repeat accuracy (0.15 mm) gives enough margin for consistent detection.
