What it is and what it does
The Omron E2EC06S02MCB1OMS is a 6 mm diameter inductive proximity sensor from the E2E series, with a flush-mount stainless steel barrel and an M8 3-pin connector. It detects ferrous targets at 2 mm, switches at 3 kHz, and outputs a PNP normally-open signal on 10–30 VDC supply, drawing 10 mA plus up to 200 mA load current.
What the ratings mean for fit
The 2 mm sensing distance is the maximum rated gap to a standard steel target when flush-mounted in steel. That means the sensor face must sit within 2 mm of the target at closest approach — any gap wider than that and the output won't switch reliably. The 15 % repeat accuracy means the switching point may drift up to 0.3 mm from cycle to cycle, which is tight enough for cam-detect or cylinder-position sensing but not for sub-millimetre registration. The 3 kHz switching frequency lets this sensor count parts or detect high-speed motion up to 3,000 events per second. That's fast for a 6 mm inductive — it keeps up with small-diameter gear teeth or fast-moving conveyor targets without missing pulses. IP67 means the stainless barrel and M8 connector survive washdown and coolant splash. The 6 mm diameter fits into tight mounting holes where an M12 or M18 sensor won't go — think gripper jaws, small transfer slides, or compact end-of-arm tooling.
Sourcing and lifecycle
For a BOM freeze or a new panel build, this part is sourced to order against an RFQ. The mature status means you can plan on multi-year availability without a forced redesign cycle.
