8 mm unshielded, PNP NC — M18 barrel
The Omron E2EL-X8MF2-M1 is an M18 threaded-barrel inductive proximity sensor with an 8 mm unshielded sensing distance. The unshielded construction means the sensing field extends beyond the barrel face, so it detects targets approaching from the side as well as the front — useful when the sensor cannot be flush-mounted in metal. Output is PNP normally closed (NC) — the load is energized when no target is present and de-energizes on detection. This fail-safe wiring is common in safety-monitoring circuits where a broken wire or sensor failure opens the circuit. Termination is via an M12 4-pin connector, standard for industrial sensors. The connector allows quick replacement without opening the panel or rewiring the gland plate.
No official replacement or successor order code is on record for this sensor. If a line-down substitution is needed, match the 8 mm unshielded range and PNP NC output.
Integration notes
The M18 threaded barrel mounts through a standard 18 mm hole with two locknuts — no bracket required. Allow clearance behind the barrel for the M12 connector and cable bend radius. Because the sensor is unshielded, do not embed it in a metal mounting block without a non-ferrous spacer; the metal will absorb part of the sensing field and reduce the effective range below 8 mm.
