What it is and why it matters for your BOM line
Omron E2EQ-X3B28 2M is a shielded M8 inductive proximity sensor, PNP normally-closed, with a 3 mm sensing range and a fluororesin coating that sheds weld slag – the same extended-range core as the E2E NEXT family, but with a slag-resistant skin for dirty environments. The IP67G rating means it stands up to oil and coolants common in machine tool cells, not just dust and washdown.
Key ratings in the context of your install
Shielded design allows flush-mount with no derating at 3 mm; short body (37.8 mm length, 21 mm thread) runs on 10 to 30 VDC 3-wire with a 2 m PVC cable.
What the slag-resistant coating buys you
The fluororesin coating on both the case and sensing face prevents weld spatter from sticking and bridging. In a robotic weld cell or near a torch, that coating is the difference between a sensor that lasts six months and one that blinks out in a week. The E2EQ series is built for exactly that abuse – standard E2E sensors won't survive the same environment.
