Sensor overview — integrator's immediate constraints
The Omron E2EW-X6C212-M1 is a weld-field immune, metal-faced inductive proximity sensor in the E2EW series. It is an M12 barrel (54.4 mm overall length, 28 mm threaded), with an NPN normally-closed output and an M12 4-pin connector. Power is 10 to 30 VDC, 3-wire DC. The rated sensing distance is 6 mm for iron; the 3x sensing factor means it detects aluminum at roughly three times that distance — a key advantage in mixed-material applications.
