M30 flush-mount with 15 mm range — target clearance and hole size
This Omron E2EX15B230M1OMS is an M30 inductive proximity sensor from the E2E-Next series, flush-mount rated for 15 mm sensing distance on mild steel. The M30 barrel means you need a 30 mm mounting hole; the flush-mount body lets it sit level with the mounting surface, so targets can pass within that 15 mm gap without mechanical interference. For a stainless-steel target, budget about 70% of the range — roughly 10–11 mm — since the correction factor for stainless is lower than for mild steel. The housing is brass with nickel plating, rated IP67 and IP69K. IP69K means it withstands high-pressure, high-temperature washdown — the kind you see in food processing and beverage lines where the sensor gets hit with 80 °C water at 80–100 bar. The nickel-plated brass body resists corrosion in those environments, though for aggressive chemical washdown you might prefer stainless steel.
Wiring and output — PNP NC with M12 connector
Output is PNP normally-closed (NC) — the sensor switches the load when the target is absent, and opens on detection. NC is the failsafe choice for safety-related guarding or jam detection: if the sensor loses power or the cable breaks, the PLC sees an open circuit and can trigger a stop. The M12 4-pin connector (standard A-coded) mates with any standard M12 cordset; pinout is pin 1 brown (+), pin 3 blue (-), pin 4 black (output), pin 2 white (unused or test input on some variants). Switching frequency is 250 Hz — that's 250 on/off cycles per second. For a 15 mm sensing zone, that handles line speeds up to about 3.75 m/s for a single target passing the face. Above that rate, the output pulse width may shorten enough that a standard PLC input filter misses the edge. If you're counting fast-moving parts on a conveyor, keep the target speed under that threshold.
Temperature range and supply — outdoor and freezer duty
Rated for -40 °C to +85 °C operating ambient, with a 10–30 VDC supply range and 16 mA current consumption (plus the 200 mA load current on the output). The -40 °C low end means it works in cold storage and outdoor winter installations without internal condensation issues, as long as the connector is properly sealed. The 85 °C top end covers most washdown and oven-adjacent applications.
