Subminiature through-beam sensor for tight mounting spaces
The Omron E32T242M is a through-beam photoelectric sensor from the E32 series. The emitter and receiver pair is housed in M3-threaded cylindrical bodies with a 2 m prewired cable, and the through-beam arrangement gives a 250 mm sensing range. At M3 diameter, this is one of the smallest photoelectric form factors available — it fits into fixtures, jigs, and tooling where even an M5 or M8 sensor housing would protrude.
IP67-rated and operating from −40 °C to +70 °C, the sensor works in unheated outdoor enclosures, freezer tunnels, and high-pressure washdown zones. The through-beam mode is inherently immune to target color and surface finish, so it detects transparent, glossy, or matte objects without sensitivity adjustment.

Applications where the M3 form factor matters
- Pick-and-place verification — mount the pair inside a vacuum gripper jaw to confirm part presence before the robot move
- Syringe / vial detection — M3 sensors fit between lanes on a pharmaceutical filling carousel
- Lead-frame indexing — detect the lead-frame edge in a die-bond or wire-bond station without obstructing the tool path
- Tape-and-reel presence — sense carrier tape peel-back on a pick-and-place feeder; the small body clears adjacent pockets
