What this sensor is and where it fits
The Omron E3FA-DN112M is a diffuse photoelectric sensor in the E3FA series, housed in a plastic M18 cylindrical body with a right-angle sensing face. It delivers a 100 mm sensing distance on opaque targets with a 0.5 msec response – fast enough to keep up with high-speed fillers and conveyors. The NPN output (100 mA max) ties into sinking-input PLCs or DC control loops. Supply is 10-30V DC, reverse-polarity and short-circuit protected on both power and output lines. The 2 m prewired cable has bare wire ends, ready for terminal blocks. With IP67 and IP69K ratings, it shrugs off washdown spray and high-pressure hot water – the kind of environment a bottling or canning line throws at it daily.
NPN vs PNP – which sibling fits your panel
The immediate cross-shop is the E3FA-DP112M: same body, same 100 mm range, same 0.5 msec response – but with a PNP output. If your PLC or load uses sourcing inputs (positive logic), the DP112M is the match; if you're terminating to a sinking/NPN input, the DN112M is the one. No mechanical difference, no wiring gotcha beyond the output transistor type. The E3FA-DN21 swaps the cable for an M12 connector and is otherwise identical – choose it if a field-replaceable connection is preferred for your maintenance plan. The E3FA-DP122M stretches the range to 300 mm but on a PNP output, so it's not a direct electrical swap.
What the ratings mean in a real line
The 100 mm diffuse sensing distance detects a 75 mm opaque target; response time is 0.5 msec, and IP69K rating enables washdown exposure.
