What it is and what it does
The Omron E3SR87 is a retroreflective photoelectric sensor from the E3S series, with a PNP output and a sensing range of 100 to 300 mm. It uses an infrared LED emitter and terminates in an M12 connector. Housing is rated IP67, so it handles washdown and dusty environments without a secondary enclosure. Supply range is 10 to 30 VDC, with a maximum load current of 100 mA. Response time is 1 ms, and the output can be set to light-on or dark-on switching. That covers most standard PLC inputs and relay loads without a separate amplifier. Typical applications: conveyor presence, packaging line product detection, pallet positioning. The 300 mm maximum range assumes a standard 50 mm reflector; shorter distances down to 100 mm work without issue.
