E3Z-D62 vs E3Z-D61 — sensing reach drives the choice
Both are NPN diffuse sensors sharing the same 31 x 11 x 20 mm PBT body, 12-24 V DC supply, IP67 rating, and 2 m bare-wire cable. The E3Z-D61 is capped at a 100 mm maximum sensing distance — fine for part-present detection inside a machine guard. The E3Z-D62 reaches 1 m, which clears a conveyor width or allows stand-off mounting on a bracket above the product path. If the original panel design called for D61 but the fixture gap opens past 100 mm, the D62 slides in mechanically as a direct swap — same footprint, same wiring color code — but verify the sensing threshold in your layout to avoid false triggers from background reflections at longer range.
Mounting, wiring, and environmental constraints
The rectangular body (31 mm height, 20 mm depth, 11 mm width) mounts with two M3 through-holes on standard bracket patterns. The 2 m bare-wire cable exits a right-angle face, so the sensor sits flush against a machine frame or bracket face. Wire the brown (V+), blue (V-), and black (NPN signal) into a three-terminal block; the selectable light/dark setting is adjusted via the visible switch on top — verify polarity of the load (100 mA max sinking) before energizing. The IP67 seal handles washdown at up to 131 °F ambient; operating range starts at -13 °F. The wide beam feature on this diffuse sensor reduces the spot-size at close range, which helps when detecting dark targets or inconsistently colored product backgrounds.
